The privileged and powerful have rigged our economy, and it’s only getting worse.
Hardworking Americans shouldn’t be forced to live off the scraps from anyone’s table. Big corporations should have an incentive to create living wage jobs for their workers, not just help their CEOs buy another vacation home. In 2018, CEOs of America’s 500 biggest companies averaged 287 times the earnings of their median workers — up from 20x in the 1970s.
Here’s the plan to reduce the gulf between workers and CEOs:
If a company insists on paying their CEO more than 30 times their median workers, they’ll pay more in corporate tax. The bigger the disparity, the bigger the increase in their tax rate.
Like Senator Paul Wellstone said, we all do better when we all do better. It’s not good for working families or for America when all of the wealth goes to the one-percenters.
