Anger turned into action
During his second term, Donald Trump has gone after the courts, the press, and anyone who dares to check his power. And he's kept his attention on something even more fundamental: Vote By Mail and your right to vote.
Oregon pioneered Vote By Mail. We proved that it's secure, that it works, and that it gets more citizens into the voting booth. Trump knows that. So he's leaning on the United States Postal Service (USPS), starving it of resources, slow-walking mail delivery, all to make it harder for ballots to get counted. And he's trying to force USPS to only mail ballots to people listed on a list provided by his Department of Homeland Security, potentially disenfranchising many eligible citizens.
I don't say any of this to scare you. I say it because now is the chance to turn our anger and frustration over Trump's authoritarian actions into action. Our collective action is the most powerful force we have.
Trump's authoritarian grip is real, but so is the backlash building against it.
None of this works if we sit on our hands. We can win this fight together.
Onward!
