Social Security has been an intergenerational promise for millions of people

For 91 years, Social Security has been an intergenerational promise for millions of people in Oregon and around the country. Today, about a million Oregonians depend on Social Security, and for a lot of them, it's virtually their entire income.

Right now, that promise is in jeopardy, and Republicans refuse to act. Trump's layoffs of 7,500 Social Security workers have meant longer wait times and fewer people to help solve problems if something goes wrong with your benefits.

More importantly, Social Security's trust fund is quickly running out of money. If we don't act, the trust fund that pays Social Security benefits runs dry in six years, and benefits could drop by more than 20% — for every single person who worked their whole life and paid into this system.

And my Republican colleagues refuse to even bring a bill to the floor that would secure Social Security's solvency for the next 70 years.

That's unacceptable. We need to fix this now, not when it's too late.

You paid in, and you should be able to count on those benefits. I'm recommitting to fighting for a Social Security system that's fully funded, fully staffed, and here for the next 91 years too.
