The United States already has the ingredients of a strongman state

I'm ringing the alarm bells. We're in the middle of an authoritarian takeover in America. It is not down the street or around the corner — it's here now.

We have the three key ingredients for a strongman state. A "rubber-stamp" Congress. A deferential Supreme Court. And a president who is behaving like a king — surveilling immigrants without warrants, plastering his own face on federal buildings, cutting himself in on crypto schemes worth over a billion dollars, and gutting federal agencies without so much as asking Congress for permission.

So I'm doing something about it. Will you support my work to fight back against Trump by pitching in today?

I just introduced the For Our Republic Act — a 10-part package that takes on Trump's abuses of power head-on. It would:

• Stop ICE from using facial recognition surveillance without a judicial warrant
• Force federal officers to identify themselves during enforcement actions
• Let people sue federal agents who violate their constitutional rights
• Ban Trump and his top officials from profiting off meme coins and crypto schemes
• Block his name and face from federal buildings, passports, and our currency
• Require Congress's approval before he can shut down another federal agency

With Republicans running Congress and Trump holding the veto pen, this bill isn't becoming law today.

The point is to lay down a marker. We are telling the American people exactly what we'll do the moment we have the power to do it. And we're doing it now, ahead of November, so voters know exactly what's at stake.

I've spent my career in the Senate fighting corruption and abuse of power — last year, I held the floor for over 22 hours straight, warning that we were facing the most perilous moment since the Civil War. I felt it then, and I feel it now.

I can't win this fight alone. I'm asking you to pitch in and help me keep fighting Trump's authoritarianism in the Senate.
