One year ago, Senate Republicans passed Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Betrayal and Trump signed it into law.

After a 27-hour vote-a-rama and after voting down every Democratic amendment that would have protected families — Republicans passed this "Families lose, Billionaires win" giveaway.

And the more people learn about this bill, the more they hate it.

One year later, we can see exactly what this bill has done to our country.

Devastating cuts to Medicaid that Americans rely on to get health care. Gutting SNAP benefits that help families put food on the table, including for hundreds of thousands of children. And the billionaires who were handed massive tax breaks are doing just fine.

The Republican vision for this bill was never a secret: families lose, billionaires win.

As we approach the Fourth of July, I find myself thinking about what Independence Day actually asks of us. It's a reminder that the promise of this country, liberty and justice for all, has never been handed to us. It is something we've had to fight for.

We see that fighting spirit in the past year in the folks who have shown up at the No Kings rallies, in those who have helped their neighbors through tough times, and in every American who is looking at what's happening to our democracy and refusing to look away.

That same spirit is what got us through this past year, and it's what will carry us forward.

Our democracy is being tested, but I know that when we rise up together and fight for a better future, we will win.
