Protecting the foundation of our democracy

There's something happening in our elections right now that should concern every American.

Billionaires are pouring unprecedented amounts of money into our political system to shape outcomes in their favor.

CBS News: Billionaires, dark money fuel questions ahead of 2026 midterms

We're not talking about small donations given by ordinary Americans. We're talking about a handful of ultra-wealthy individuals spending tens — even hundreds — of millions of dollars to influence who wins an election, which impacts what policies get passed in an administration and whose voices are heard by high level officials.

When billionaires dominate campaign funding, policies start to reflect their priorities — tax breaks for the wealthy, fewer protections for workers, and less investment in things families rely on like healthcare, education, and housing.

It also erodes trust in our system when campaign spending gives influence and access, undermining confidence that government is working for the people.

I've been fighting to push back against this imbalance — by working to shine a light on dark money in our elections, pushing for stronger disclosure and transparency rules, and introducing legislation to crack down on corruption and conflicts of interest so public officials can't use their positions for personal financial gain.

This is about protecting the foundation of our democracy, and it's a fight we can't afford to lose.

Onward,

Jeff
