It’s the same story we’ve seen over and over: families lose, billionaires win
Yesterday in the Senate, Republicans kicked off the first step of their budget reconciliation process — a marathon "vote-a-rama" where senators offer amendment after amendment before passing a budget resolution.
This is only step one. First, they pass a budget resolution. Then comes step two: a massive, partisan bill that can pass with a simple majority vote and reshape the country.
And what are Republicans prioritizing in that process?
Not lowering costs for families. Not tackling the price of groceries or gas. Not protecting Social Security or Medicare.
Instead, they are pushing billions more in funding for Trump's secret police at ICE and CBP.
During the vote-a-rama, Democrats made it crystal clear what we stand for. Again and again, we offered amendments to lower costs — to bring down prices on everyday essentials, to support working families, to invest in health care and housing, including an amendment I offered to kick hedge funds out of the single-family housing market.
And again and again, Republicans voted them down.
They had the chance to stand with families struggling to make ends meet, and they chose to double down on Trump's agenda instead. That's what this budget fight is all about.
It's the same story we've seen over and over: families lose, billionaires win.
I'm fighting back as Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee to expose what Trump and Republicans are doing and stop this dangerous agenda from becoming law, but I can't do it alone.
Onward!
