On this Earth Day
On this Earth Day, we can celebrate our beautiful Earth and all of its natural wonders, but we must also still sound the alarm.
We still have a LOT of work to do to take on the climate crisis, and Trump and his Cabinet of fossil-fuel cronies are hellbent on taking us backward as fast as they can.
We need to end the world's addiction to fossil fuels. We are flooding the world with dangerous, planet-warming carbon dioxide and other gases from burning fossil fuels. But Trump, to fulfill a promise to oil and gas companies who donated to his campaign, is prioritizing oil and gas projects that are making this problem worse every day.
The Earth is crying out for help — every year, we see oceans warming, snowpack declining, and increasingly intense natural disasters like wildfires and hurricanes.
We need action, and we need it now. And that's why I will always use every tool I have — from legislation to oversight to appropriations to speaking out — to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
So, on Earth Day, let's rededicate ourselves to a rapid and just transition to renewable energy and an end to the production of fossil fuels, and to educating America about the need to preserve our planet's precious biodiversity.
Here's how you can help: make choices that reflect the future you believe in. Plant a tree, pick up litter, and make a plan to use less plastic. But don't stop there. Join with others, organize, and push for bold change. A livable planet is within reach if we fight for it together.
Onward!
