Let me tell you what we’re up against
As we close out March, let me tell you what we're up against, and why the fights ahead demand urgency right now.
Donald Trump and his cronies are using the government as a weapon — against political opponents, against immigrants, against people, and states that refuse to fall in line. We've seen him threatening blue states by withholding funds, attacking our fundamental freedoms, striking Iran without Congressional approval, stealing Congress's power of the purse, and unleashing emboldened, rogue ICE agents operating with little accountability into our neighborhoods.
Trump and his cronies want a country where dissent — even from Congress–is punished, protest is criminalized, and entire communities live in fear of federal agents who answer to no one. This is about authoritarian control. It's about testing how far they can go, and who will stop them.
In the Senate, I'm fighting back. I'm pushing for oversight. I'm standing up for due process, civil liberties, and the basic idea that no president is above the law. But Trump is counting on exhaustion and silence. He's betting that people will look away while he tightens his grip.
That's why this moment matters so much. The fights ahead will determine whether we protect our democracy or let it be hollowed out piece by piece.
Onward,
Jeff
