Donald Trump believes the government should be used as a weapon
As we close out January, I need to be very clear about what we're up against and why the fights ahead demand urgency right now.
Donald Trump and his administration believe the government should be used as a weapon against political opponents, against immigrants, against people and states that refuse to fall in line. We're already seeing him threatening blue states, attacking fundamental freedoms, and unleashing emboldened, rogue ICE agents operating with little accountability.
Trump and his cronies want a country where dissent is punished, protest is criminalized, and entire communities live in fear of federal agents who answer to no one. This is about authoritarian control. It's about testing how far they can go, and who will stop them.
In the Senate, I'm fighting back. I'm demanding oversight. I'm standing up for due process, civil liberties, and the basic idea that no president is above the law. But Trump is counting on exhaustion and silence. He's betting that people will look away while he tightens his grip.
That's why this moment matters so much. The fights ahead will determine whether we protect our democracy or let it be hollowed out piece by piece.
Onward,
Jeff
