Trump’s Greenland obsession is a power grab, plain and simple

While families are worrying about the cost of groceries, rent, and health care, Donald Trump is spending his time talking about taking over Greenland. I want to be clear about what's driving this because it has nothing to do with protecting America or making life more affordable for anyone.

This is about ego. Trump's ego.

Trump sees Greenland on a map, blown up by projection, and wants to slap his name on a massive chunk of land to feed what may be the biggest ego on the planet. This has nothing to do with reality on the ground or the needs of the American people.

You may hear scare stories about Chinese or Russian ships and submarines swarming Greenland. Those claims are unfounded. The United States already has a military presence there — Pituffik Space Base on Greenland's western coast — and our allies are fully engaged in Arctic security. There is no emergency that justifies saber-rattling or talk of taking over another country.

Greenland is a self-governing territory, and its people have made clear they are open to cooperation, including the responsible development of strategic minerals. That's how international relationships work — through partnership and respect, not imperial-style power grabs.

Trump's Greenland obsession is a power grab, plain and simple. It's about him — not what's best for America.

I don't believe Congress will go along with it. I hope Democrats and Republicans alike say, clearly and forcefully: hell no. I'll keep speaking out, because our foreign policy should be grounded in reality, respect for sovereignty, and a focus on actually improving people's lives here at home.
