We need leaders who stand with working people, not billionaires
I want to give you a quick update on what's happening with Starbucks because it shows exactly why we need leaders who stand with working people, not billionaires.
Starbucks workers have organized in over 500 stores, and 92% just voted to authorize a nationwide strike. They're asking for fair wages, predictable schedules, and basic protections. But Starbucks has responded with one of the most aggressive and illegal union-busting campaigns in the country — over 500 labor law violations, plus 125 new allegations this year alone.
Meanwhile, the company made billions in profit last year, and the CEO took home $95 million in four months, while baristas struggle to make rent. Starbucks has the money to pay their workers fairly — they just won't.
That's why I joined a group of my colleagues in the Senate to demand that Starbucks stop the union-busting and return to the bargaining table. Workers deserve a fair contract, not intimidation and delay tactics.
My father was a union machinist, and because of that, our family had stability, security, and a shot at the American Dream. Unions deliver respect, fair wages, and safe working conditions. They don't just lift up paychecks–they lift up entire communities and drive an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
This is the fight: billion-dollar corporations versus the people who keep them running. And I'm going to keep standing with workers every step of the way.
Onward!
Jeff
