Senate Republicans rejected a plan to extend the expiring ACA subsidies for just one year
Throughout the government shutdown, we've seen countless examples of Trump and Republicans not caring about you or making your life better.
From shutting down the government to avoid extending the Affordable Care Act subsidies that help millions of Americans afford health coverage to not funding SNAP benefits for millions of vulnerable Americans, the cruelty is clear. Republicans would only agree to a December vote on the ACA subsidies, not even to support that vote when the time comes.
Just a few short hours before the Senate voted to fund the government, Senate Republicans rejected Senator Tammy Baldwin's plan to extend those expiring ACA subsidies for just one year — on a party-line vote.
That doesn't inspire much faith in the promised December vote.
Let's not forget — they've spent years trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, and now they're refusing to fix the crisis their actions created. Millions of families could soon face skyrocketing premiums and lose access to care — all because Republican leadership is playing politics with people's health.
Affordable health care access should never be a bargaining chip. We must hold Congress accountable to keep its word and protect the ACA subsidies that millions depend on. I'll keep working in the Senate to lower health care costs for Oregonians.
Onward,
Jeff
