I’ll tell you why there are no treats from me this year
I usually send a Halloween candy email each year, but this year it's different. I'll tell you why there are no treats from me this year.
Last week, I spent 22 hours and 37 minutes on the Senate floor ringing the alarm bells about Trump's authoritarianism. Trump is trying to make America accustomed to the idea that one man can rule unchecked with the help of his MAGA cronies. We're in a critical moment for the future of our country.
Americans are standing up because the President is not a king, the law is not a suggestion, and the Constitution is not optional. Yet, Donald Trump is acting as if all three are up for debate.
He's attacking the free press to silence truth-tellers, deploying the military against peaceful protesters, defying court orders, tearing down a part of the White House to build his own personal ballroom, and weaponizing federal agencies to punish political enemies. Every move is part of a deliberate strategy to normalize authoritarian power, and it's happening right before our eyes.
And let's be clear: Republicans are helping him every step of the way. This weekend, Trump and Republicans will let more than 40 million Americans go hungry because they refuse to extend the SNAP benefits families rely on for food. Meanwhile, Trump and his MAGA cronies are enriching themselves and billionaires, punishing blue states, and dismantling the institutions that keep our democracy standing. With them, it's always the same story: families lose, billionaires win.
We're at a defining moment for our country. We either stand together or risk losing the very freedoms that define us. I'll keep speaking out on the Senate floor, organizing across Oregon, and doing everything in my power to defend our democracy, but I can't do it alone.
Together, we can win and elect a Senate majority that fights back.
Onward,
Jeff
