Trump's National Guard stunt

Donald Trump's deployment of the National Guard in Portland is right out of the authoritarian handbook: stoke violence, then use that violence to justify even more authoritarian measures.

He even admitted he wants to "do a number" on Portland. His goal is fear, chaos, and division, not solutions.

But Portland doesn't need National Guard troops on our streets. Our city is strong and resilient, and we take care of each other. What we do want are federal resources that actually make a difference: affordable health care, stronger bridges, wildfire protection, and more affordable housing.

Trump's stunt is political theater at our expense. Let's not take the bait. Portland is peaceful, Portland is united, and we will not let authoritarian tactics define our community.
