We can’t sit idly by while Republicans systematically undermine the right to vote
Right now, Republican lawmakers are escalating their attacks on voting rights — pushing restrictive policies designed to make it harder for everyday Americans to vote. From limiting access to the ballot box and Vote by Mail to rolling back protections that ensure fair elections, these efforts are part of a broader strategy to cling to power by undermining the democratic process.
This is exactly the kind of voter suppression and partisan power grab that the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is meant to stop.
That's why I've joined my Senate colleagues in reintroducing this critical legislation — to restore and update the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which federal courts have chipped away at over the past decade.
Time and time again, John Lewis put his life on the line to defend every American's right to vote. To honor his legacy — and to protect our democracy — we must act. We won't sit idly by while Republicans wage an assault on the right to vote and try to dismantle our democracy.
Since the Supreme Court's 2013 decision in Shelby County v. Holder ended federal oversight of discriminatory voting laws, we've seen a tidal wave of voter suppression.
We need to pass this bill. Now more than ever, we need to protect the right to vote. And we need your voice in this fight.
Onward!
