Renters deserve transparency

You finally find a new home in your budget and get ready to sign the lease — only to get slammed with hundreds of dollars of "junk fees" for things like application or credit screening fees.

That's why I've introduced the End Junk Fees for Renters Act with Representative Maxwell Frost to crack down on corporate landlords and bring transparency and accountability to the rental market.

Too many corporate landlords are using bogus surprise fees, inflated penalties, and expensive credit checks to squeeze more money out of renters. It's legalized exploitation, plain and simple, and it's making housing even more unaffordable for families across the country.

Our bill is simple, commonsense legislation:

• Upfront, clear pricing for all charges
• Fair access to housing — not arbitrary credit barriers
