We’ve seen how powerful our democracy can be when we raise our voices together
Today, I'm taking a moment to reflect on what this Independence Day holiday means and what it asks of us.
This day honors our independence, our freedoms, and the bold vision of a nation built on liberty and justice for all. And while we've made enormous progress, the promise of America remains unfinished and the fight to fully realize that founding promise is far from over — especially as we confront growing threats to our democracy.
We've seen how powerful our democracy can be when we raise our voices together. We saw it in the No Kings protests. We saw it in the Hands Off demonstrations. And we'll continue to see it as Americans stand united against Donald Trump's strongman authoritarianism and the MAGA extremism trying to drag our nation backward.
Right now, our institutions are under siege — from a Supreme Court hijacked by Justices pushing a right-wing agenda to a Congress where too many lawmakers ignore the will of the very people they represent to elections flooded with dark money from corporate special interests buying influence behind closed doors. Meanwhile, Trump and his Republican cronies are ripping up the very foundations of our democracy and passing vicious, unpopular budget plans that gut Medicaid for millions of Americans.
But I refuse to back down, and I know you won't either.
This Independence Day weekend, let's recommit to the fight. Stand with me as we work to protect our democracy, root out corruption, stop authoritarianism in its tracks, and build a country that delivers freedom, dignity, and justice for all of us.
We've proven that when we rise together, we can push back — and we will keep pushing for the future we deserve.
Onward,
Jeff
