We should get the best prices on prescription drugs
Americans are getting price-gouged at the pharmacy. We pay the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs, even though our tax dollars fund most of the cutting-edge research and development. On average, Americans spend over $1,400 on prescription drugs every year — the highest per capita drug spending in the world — largely because the pharmaceutical industry is ripping us off to make billions and billions in profits each year.
That is unconscionable.
In my town halls across every corner of the state, I've heard over and over from Oregonians about how sky-high prescription drug prices are pushing their budgets to the limit, often forcing them to make hard choices between paying for needed medicine and paying for groceries or rent.
I introduced the End Price Gouging for Medications Act to crack down on Big Pharma's greed.
The U.S. leads the world in prescription drug research — we should get the best prices on prescription drugs, not the worst.
People want action on costs, and that's why my bill has bipartisan support. It would force Big Pharma to charge Americans no more than they charge for prescription drugs in other developed countries similar to the United States.
Trump says he wants to lower drug costs. He should prove it by working with Congress to get it done.
Onward!
