We must end drilling in the Arctic Ocean
The Arctic Ocean is one of our last wild frontiers — a place of rich biodiversity and home to some of our planet's most delicate ecosystems. But the region is ground zero for climate chaos — warming four times faster than the rest of the world and suffering rapid sea ice loss, ocean acidification, and widespread ecological disruption.
Trump's Dirty Energy First strategy would rip open the Arctic Ocean for oil and gas giants — sacrificing one of the most fragile places on Earth to enrich billionaire corporate polluters and put the health of our planet at even greater risk.
Right now, communities across America and around the world are struggling with the devastating impacts of climate chaos. We can't afford more dirty drilling. Not now. Not ever. It's past time to put the Arctic Ocean permanently off-limits from reckless oil and gas exploration, and Congress must stop the Trump Administration from auctioning off even more of the Arctic and its protected waters to the highest bidder.
That's why I introduced the Stop Arctic Ocean Drilling Act.
Scientists tell us that ending new offshore drilling could prevent up to 19 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions, a crucial step toward hitting our climate goals and giving future generations a livable planet.
This bill is a cornerstone in the fight to end our dangerous dependence on fossil fuels, avoid the worst impacts of climate chaos, and build cleaner, safer communities. We must protect our oceans, planet, and future, and this bill aims to do just that.
Onward,
Jeff
