It started with Stonewall, and it continues today πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Pride is rooted in activism, and this Pride Month, I'm calling for more action. More action to support the LGBTQ+ community. More action to protect transgender kids. More action to stop extremists who attack LGBTQ+ communities.

Pride began with the Stonewall uprising in 1969, a pivotal event in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in this country, and the parades that commemorated the uprising beginning in 1970. Pride has always been about standing up for our right to love freely and openly and to be who we are.

This year, we have so much to celebrate, but we also have so much more to fight for.

Despite the progress we've made, It's painfully obvious that not everyone is guaranteed equal justice in the United States. The LGBTQ+ community faces discrimination and hatred. That's why I continue to fight for equal justice and push for passage of the Equality Act to enshrine protection for LGBTQ+ folks into federal law.

In our country, Republican-led states are attacking the LGBTQ+ community, while Democrat-led states are bolstering the rights of LGBTQ+ communities. Republicans have targeted the trans community as their latest political punching bag, passing laws to bully trans children and marginalize entire communities.

Our movement is not about you or me. It is about all of us. It is about the fight to protect the rights of LGBTQ+ people, children, and communities and value and love people for who they are. It's a fight that we wage every day.

Pride is a time to celebrate, to see how far we have come, and to remember those we lost in the struggle. But it is also a time to renew our commitment to the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, to be allies, and to keep realizing opportunities for equality.

Onward!
