The son of a union machinist

Today, on Labor Day, we honor the American worker and those who fought for the social and economic rights of workers across the United States.

As the son of a union machinist, I know the difference a union makes in delivering fair wages and the strong workplace protections that every worker deserves.

President Biden and Democrats in Congress have been working hard to put power back in the hands of workers. For too long, the economy has been rigged to favor powerful corporations, so now is the time to restore fairness in the workplace and make the economy work for workers. In the last few years, we've made enormous strides investing in an economy that creates opportunities for everyone, not just the mega-sized corporations.

But we know our work is far from over. This year, I joined a group of Senators to introduce comprehensive legislation that would protect workers' right to organize and bargain for higher wages, better benefits, and safer workplaces in Oregon and nationwide.

Unions built the middle class, and they are crucial to growing and reinforcing an economy that rewards hard-working people. I will never stop fighting for working families and ensuring they have every opportunity to succeed.

In Solidarity,

Jeff
