We already know it kills people. Let’s ban it.

What do you know about asbestos?

I'm sure you know it's dangerous. Or you may know that it causes cancer.

Like many folks, you probably assume it's been banned.

But it hasn't...

Asbestos is still imported into the United States for commercial use. We are one of a few developed countries in the world where asbestos is not banned.

Because asbestos is not banned, people in certain industries wake up, go to work, and find themselves producing products with asbestos in the production process every day.

This is wholly unsafe, wholly unfair, wholly preventable. Industries that utilize asbestos almost always have alternatives, but they keep using asbestos because it's cheaper and easier. They'll only stop when we make them stop.

That is why Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and I have proposed a bill to ban the use of asbestos in the United States. This is about protecting workers, consumers, and everyone in the country.

Every day that we go without an asbestos ban is another day that Americans' health and lives are being put in grave danger. Experts have said for years that no level of asbestos exposure is safe, and now it is time for our laws to reflect that. The time to pass a ban and save lives is today.

Onward!
