Corporate cash, racism, and lies
Oregon does it differently. So do progressive Democrats.
We've got a great track record, but we're going to have to work harder than ever to win in 2022. The recent election results in Virginia and elsewhere make that clear.
As hard as we'll work, the Republican strategy is pretty impactful: pile up huge amounts of corporate cash and use it to spread racist lies about Democrats' accomplishments.
Since Donald Trump first campaigned on racist tropes, the vast majority of the Republican Party has embraced the strategy wholeheartedly. The right-wing demagogues in TV, radio, social media, and politics are all about "owning the libs", denying voting rights, rejecting common sense and basic science, and fomenting division in America. They're fully prepared to encourage the spread of COVID, wreck our children's future, and burn down 230 years of our democratic republic to grab power.
It's a toxic recipe, and we have to do everything we can to organize, engage, and win. Our secret sauce in Oregon has always been a massive, coordinated, strategic ground game. Our Oregon Blue Victory Fund isn't about TV ads, it's about making that ground game happen right here in Oregon, neighborhood by neighborhood.
This coming year, I am going to be working closely with Democrats across Oregon. We're going to send Ron Wyden back to the Senate, defend Peter DeFazio in the House, elect a Democrat in our new Sixth District, elect a new Democratic Governor, and keep our strong progressive majorities in the Oregon House and Senate.
That's a big order.
None of us can be on the sidelines over the next 12 months.
