What’s in the plan? Taking on the climate crisis

If you've been following the news lately, you know that there's a lot of questions swirling around whether, when, and how Congress might pass President Biden's Build Back Better plan.

Let me be clear: We need to protect President Biden's Build Back Better plan, because we know the knives are out for it. Here's another example of what's at stake.

I don't have to tell you that we are facing a terrible threat from the climate crisis. Increasing carbon in the air is warming the planet, producing droughts, catastrophic wildfires, devastating hurricanes and floods, and increasing acidification that's killing our oceans.

The good news? We are innovative enough and strong enough to do something about it—unless the fossil fuel barons block our way.

Here's what the Build Back Better plan does to tackle the climate crisis:

It would launch a clean electricity program to ensure that 80% of our power comes from carbon-free sources by the year 2030 — up from 38% today. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, that would slash carbon dioxide emissions by 86% from 2005 levels. That's a big deal!

We would also make historic investments in clean energy technologies -- like solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and energy-efficient buildings. We'd create tax credits to buy electric cars, and electrify the federal automobile fleet.

And we will launch a civilian climate corps to put 20,000 young people to work strengthening the country's natural defenses to climate change and maintaining our public lands.

From wildfires to hurricanes, the climate crisis is more real in our daily lives than ever before. We must make this historic investment to set ourselves on the right path. Sign my petition and let's fight the climate crisis. Tell Congress: We have to build back better!

Onward!
