Who will be Oregon's next secretary of state?
Across America, Democratic secretaries of state are one of our most critical lines of defense against Team Trump's attempts at undermining our democracy.
The downright illegal voter roll purges? Allowing unfettered election intimidation? Trying to make it harder to vote by mail during a pandemic? All of that can be protected against with strong, progressive, and ethical leaders in the right places.
Like here in Oregon, where I am enthusiastically supporting my friend Sen. Shemia Fagan as our next Secretary of State.
But it's going to be a tough one. Just four years ago, Republicans won the Secretary of State race. We need to do everything we can to elect Shemia. That means reaching out to voters in every corner of our state with our historic, pandemic-appropriate organizing effort.
Shemia is everything Oregon needs in a secretary of state. As a child, her family faced homelessness, but thanks to Oregon schools, she became a civil rights attorney and has been a tireless champion for our progressive values in the Oregon House and Senate.
Once elected, you can bet she'll be a bold voice, always putting the people first when it comes to protecting our elections, overseeing redistricting, and protecting voting by mail and our elections at a time when the Republicans too often want fewer people to vote.
That's why Shemia is right at the heart of our coordinated Oregon campaign to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, and why we need to stand with her in this race to Election Day.
