Will you join me in supporting the HereTogether campaign?
Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we come together to support our most vulnerable neighbors - those currently experiencing homelessness and those most at risk. While affordable housing is necessary, so are the essential supportive services that create successful transitions from homelessness into safe and stable housing.
I'm voting YES on Measure #26-210 in the May election and I'm supporting the HereTogether campaign to make sure it passes.
I believe in my bones that housing is a basic dignity, an essential right in our society. It shouldn't ever be so unaffordable that families are forced to live in their cars or on the streets.
Ensuring people can survive homelessness and get back on their feet is one the reasons I got into public service. It's why I was proud to lead Portland's Habitat for Humanity, and why, at every stop I've made in my career, I bring issues of affordable, equitable housing to the table.
In our Portland metro region, thousands of our neighbors are sleeping out on the streets every night. It's a great shame that Oregon ranks first in the nation for unsheltered children sleeping on the streets each night.
We can and must take this on.
Measure #26-210 is a smart, equitable investment in helping some of our region's most vulnerable off the streets. It will not tax anyone who cannot afford it, now or in the future. And it's a responsible, essential part of the path forward for so many families.
Stay tuned.
