They're on strike. I stand with them.
All across the country, young people are demanding action from us on climate change. Today, they're walking out in protest of our nation's inaction as part of a Global Climate Strike.
Their demands are perfectly reasonable: they want to inherit a healthy planet, not one on the verge of ruin thanks to polluters and the politicians that enable them.
Here's the good news: When Washington's Governor Jay Inslee ran for President, he put the climate crisis front and center in the debate. Now that he's running for re-election as Washington's governor, he's still leading this fight.
Jay and I are both ringing the climate chaos alarm bell as loudly as we can. Republican inaction is putting our planet at risk. We have no more time to waste.
Whether it's the election for Washington governor or for Oregon senator, this is one of the most pivotal elections ever in our fight against climate chaos.
I support the students walking out today.
We owe them a future with hope and possibility. And we need their passion and energy to drive the change we all need.
Fighting the climate crisis must be our leaders' top priority. It is for me, and it is for Jay.
