Congress must pass strong voter protections right now

Donald Trump and the Republicans suffered historic election losses because their agenda is abysmal.

Gutting health care? Cozying up to the NRA and big polluters? Tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy? No thanks, said the American people.

But, as the last few elections have shown, too many Washington D.C. Republicans want to keep power at any cost. This has manifested as anti-democratic measures, voter intimidation, and suppression. Far too many people are at risk of basic disenfranchisement.

Tomorrow, our new term in Congress begins. The first and top priority for Democrats must be passing voter protection laws.

We must improve access to polling places and increase ballot security.

We must establish national automatic voter registration as they do in my home state of Oregon.

We must put an end to partisan gerrymandering forever.
