BREAKING: I'm suing Trump to stop Kavanaugh

I filed a lawsuit today and asked a federal court to stop the vote on Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.

Here's why:

The Constitution is very clear. The U.S. Senate must provide advice and consent on the President's nominees to the Supreme Court.

What does "advice and consent" mean? If it means anything, it means that that Senate should review the nominee's record and make a thoughtful, considered judgment as to his or her qualifications.

But the Trump White House has chosen to actively conceal over 200,000 documents from Kavanaugh's time in the Bush White House. And they've conspired to do so with Senators Mitch McConnell and Chuck Grassley, as well as with a private, partisan lawyer and former coworker of Kavanaugh's.

This is a serious violation of the constitutional separation of powers. The executive branch has conspired to prevent the Senate from performing the advise and consent duties required by the Constitution.

I've asked the court for an injunction that would require the Trump White House to turn over the documents and stop the vote on Kavanaugh until the documents are released and the Senate has the time to review them.

Donald Trump and his allies are engaged in a frontal assault on American democracy, and we must resist with everything we've got.

While I’m fighting back in the Senate and now in the courts, you can help me fight where it matters most: at the ballot box.

Donate to our efforts to build a blue wave that stops the Trump/GOP assault on our We the People democratic values in its tracks.**

We're supporting progressive candidates in critical swing districts all across the country so we can take back the House, take back the Senate, and take back statehouses from shore to shore.

Election Day is coming. And with your help, we're going to win.
