New Merkley Ad Focuses on Health Care

Posted by Sarah Lane on October 23, 2008

Jeff's wife Mary Sorteberg, is center-stage in a new ad from the Merkley Campaign focusing on affordable, accessible health care for all Americans. Before Mary became a nurse here in Portland, Oregon, she traveled to India to work with Mother Teresa's Sisters. She's got quite a story to tell. Check out the new ad:

As a medical anthropologist (OSU), former nursing school librarian, health researcher, and one-time resident of Canada, I've been working for years for a modern health care system and am SO HAPPY to see Jeff's commitment. Sarasohn's Sunday Oregonian Nov.9 comment on Jeff's commitment was heartening, and right on target! I have developed a series of radio programs on Health and Health Care -- one will be aired on KBOO (90.7 Portland; 100.7 W. Valley) this coming FRIDAY NOV. 14 at 10:30 a.m. featuring an oncologist who co-organized the Physicians for a National Health Program, and another runs the same time Nov. 21 with the former co-chair of Mid-Valley Health Advocates. I'm doing more of them that I hope will help us understand and pitch in. PLEASE call on me to help reach the public on the ways in which reform can help to liberate us from fear, so we can focus on the many real challenges at hand.
