Oregon State Police Officers Association Endorse Merkley!
Posted by Sarah Lane on August 21, 2008
Protecting Oregon families and giving police officers the support they deserve is an important issue for Jeff Merkley. The Oregon State Police Officers Association endorsed Jeff Merkley for U.S. Senate today. Here's what President of the Oregon State Police Officers Association Jeff Leighty, had to say about the recent endorsement:
"Jeff Merkley has always fought to keep our children and families safe from crime by ensuring that law enforcement have the resources they need to do their job," said Jeff Leighty, President of the OSPOA. "After riding along with our troopers, Jeff led the charge to help law enforcement patrol roads and highways 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Oregon needs a proven public safety leader to change the way things work in Washington D.C. Jeff Merkley will fight hard every single day in the U.S. Senate to ensure that Oregon law enforcement have the tools they need to do their job."
Jeff Merkley was very grateful for the coveted endorsement. Here's what Jeff had to say:
"I am honored to have the endorsement of the men and women of the Oregon State Police Officers' Association," said House Speaker Jeff Merkley. "As a father of two I believe that keeping our children and our communities safe is one of our top priorities and a never-ending job. For more than a decade I've worked with law enforcement to clean up our neighborhoods and keep Oregon families safe. In the U.S. Senate I will not rest until our law enforcement have the tools and resources they need to protect our children and our families."
Merkley has worked tirelessly as a legislator to ensure that police officers have the support and tools they need to best protect Oregon families. Merkley led the effort to expand the DNA crime lab to address the backlog. Jeff also fought to add 139 more state troopers to help patrol our highways in an effort to make our roads safer for Oregonians. Merkley has a history of working to protect Oregonians and he'll take the same fight to D.C. once elected to the Senate.
