Merkley House Parties for Change

Posted by Sarah Lane on August 22, 2008

This past week, Oregonians showed their support for Jeff by holding house parties all across the state. From South Beach to Albany, Merkley supporters joined together to tune in to a conference call with DNC chairman Howard Dean and Speaker Jeff Merkley. Howard Dean spoke about the importance of Jeff winning the Oregon Senate seat:

I have full confidence in his abilities as a United States Senator. This is a critical seat. It's critical for the future of the country because we can't control the Senate without it."

The race here in Oregon is critical. Considering the slim majority Democrats have in Congress, one more vote could mean the difference between passing real health care reform, or ending the war in Iraq.

Jeff spoke about what this election is really about:

“This election is about ending the war in Iraq. This is about creating affordable, accessible health care for every American. This is about ending our dependence on foreign oil and having an energy policy that serves not only our foreign policy but our economy and helps us tackle global warming. This is a battle over the type of economy we have and whether we're going to recreate living wage jobs or continue to lose them overseas."

Jeff is right. This election is a battle over whether our government is going to start governing for working people again, or if we're going to stay on the same course. If we elect Democrats like Jeff Merkley to Congress, working people will have a voice in Washington D.C.

Here's a great picture from one of the house parties where Jeff received the support of some new young supporters.
