The importance of Oregon's new Domestic Partnership law

Posted by Carla Axtman on February 15, 2008

Over at Daily Kos today, diarist Milos Janus Outlook writes about how important Oregon's new Domestic Partnership law is a "final piece to the puzzle" in securing equal protections and rights under the law.

As Oregon House Speaker, Jeff Merkley led the way in the Legislature on the passage of Domestic Partnerships. Jeff's leadership on this and a whole array of other progressive issues demonstrate why Jeff Merkley shares the values of Oregonians.

What puts me at ease with Merkley as our future Senator, is his proven record of passing progressive legislation. There's no guessing game about how he's going to legislate.

His proven record is important. Equally important is the fact that he knows how to get things done in a legislature. Talking the talk is all fine and good, but it accomplishes nothing unless it's matched with walking the walk. And on that count Jeff Merkley has few peers in general and none at all in this Senate race except for Gordon Smith.
