100 Homes for Change The Merkley campaign is kicking off its newest grassroots effort -- 100 Homes for Change! Beginning in August, families across Oregon will begin opening their homes to family, friends, and neighbors to spread the word about Jeff Merkley's campaign to bring change to Washington. Signing up to host a house party for change is a great way to help build our campaign's momentum to win in November. With your help, we can raise a little money, recruit a few volunteers, and send Gordon Smith back to Pendleton. One night in August, September, and October, people across Oregon will gather in living rooms to learn more about how they can hit the pavement to help make it happen. Join us. Merkley raced [quarter-midget cars] as a child, and once owned -- and crashed -- a Harley. He roomed with an impoverished family in Ghana as a teen, hitchhiked across Israel as a young man and went on, as he puts it, to help shut down one of Portland's worst crack alleys.

"I've lived," he says, "a pretty unconventional life."
