Huge wins for progressives

Yesterday, we moved our country forward.

We turned aside the politics of the 1% and re-elected President Barack Obama.

And, across the country, progressive Senate candidates won close races and will be joining me in Washington D.C. as part of a bigger Senate majority working for the middle class, standing up to special interests, and rebuilding our economy for working Americans.

Thanks to your support, the Proven Progressive candidates we supported were all victorious. I look forward to working closely with Massachusetts’ Elizabeth Warren, Connecticut’s Chris Murphy, Wisconsin’s Tammy Baldwin, and Ohio’s Sherrod Brown in the Senate.

At the same time, I also have great hope that, last night, we took a great step toward reforming the filibuster.

Seven of the filibuster reformers we supported together will be joining me in the U.S. Senate: Virginia’s Tim Kaine, Hawaii’s Mazie Hirono, North Dakota’s Heidi Heitkamp, New Mexico’s Martin Heinrich, Elizabeth Warren, Chris Murphy, and Tammy Baldwin.

Savor these victories. Politicians don't win elections, it's the army of supporters and volunteers knocking on doors, placing phone calls, persuading friends, and making donations who make it happen.

Now, thanks to your huge effort, we have a stronger team fighting for a more fair, inclusive, tolerant, forward-looking society where everyone has a shot to go as far as their talents and hard work take them.

I'm proud to stand by your side to fight for the America we believe in.

Thanks,
Senator Jeff Merkley
