New Merkley Ad: A Clear Choice on the Economy
While Smith/Bush Give Billions to Wall Street, Merkley Will Cut Taxes, Create Jobs
Jeff Merkley's campaign is launching a new ad focused on the failed economic policies of Gordon Smith and George Bush and Merkley's plans to cut taxes for middle class families and create living-wage jobs. Along with the $700 billion blank check for Wall Street, Gordon Smith and George Bush have given billions to big oil and corporations that ship jobs overseas. Jeff Merkley will end the giveaways for special interests and cut taxes for 95 percent of working Americans.

"The next President and new Congress must end the failed economic policies of Gordon Smith and George Bush and side with middle class families," said Jeff Merkley. "Under Smith and Bush, big oil and Wall Street CEOs have gotten top billing. I will change that by ending the giveaways and cutting taxes and creating jobs for middle class families."
Last week Gordon Smith stood with Bush to sign a $700 billion blank check for Wall Street.
Jeff Merkley was one of the first to oppose the blank check for Bush and laid out clear principles to address the financial crisis. Senator Ron Wyden and Congressmen Peter DeFazio and Earl Blumenauer also opposed the deal, which will cost every Oregon family $10,000.
The American economy continues to lose jobs under the leadership of Bush and Smith. The same failed policies that have caused a financial crisis on Wall Street cost 159,000 Americans jobs last month alone. For nine straight months America's economy has lost jobs.
In Oregon Jeff Merkley balanced the budget, established the rainy day fund, and cut taxes for working people. He has released an economic plan to create millions of new good-paying jobs, end tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas, and cut taxes for middle class families. Script: "Break"
Male Voice Over: Gordon Smith and George Bush,
Billions and billions in tax breaks for big oil and corporations that ship jobs overseas.
And now a blank check for Wall Street.
But for working families, there's Jeff Merkley.
Balanced the state budget,
Created the rainy day fund,
And Merkley's plan to cut taxes for the middle class and create living-wage jobs is what we need to strengthen our economy.
Finally, a senator on your side.
