U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) picked up another endorsement Wednesday from JStreet PAC, a group dedicated toward establishing a new direction for U.S. foreign policy.
The group said that Merkley’s prior experience as a national security analyst and his foresight to disagree with the Iraq war from the beginning led them to believe that the Oregon House Speaker would be able to work with leaders in the Middle East to establish a peaceful solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“America is in dire need of leaders with real national security experience and sound judgment,” JStreetPAC Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami said. “Having served as a national security analyst in the Pentagon and Congress, Jeff has the foreign policy experience to differentiate between real and manufactured threats to the country.”
Merkley worked as a national security analyst in the 1980s for the Defense Department and the Congressional Budget Office, analyzing nuclear weapons policies and programs.
