Mary's Mail, June

You will hear from me as a mom (sometimes a frazzled one), as a Registered Nurse working at the bedside, as an active member of the Oregon Nurses Association, and as the spouse of a candidate in a very significant and important state-wide race.

I want to share a story with you from May 20th, Primary Election day. I woke up our daughter, Brynne, for school and in her sleepy, not quite awake yet voice, she asked, "Is Daddy going to win today?" I told her I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen that night. She was quick to respond that she was sure that Daddy was going to win.

On our way to school, she asked me if I wanted to know why she was so certain that Daddy was going to win- of course I wanted to know!

She told me that whenever the clasp on her necklace would work its way to the front of her neck, she would wish that Daddy would win and then move the clasp behind her neck. She finished by saying, "That happened a lot of times too, Mom."

How beautiful is that?!

Brynne believes that anything is possible -- that yes, everything is possible. Change is possible.

It is possible for her dad to become a U.S. Senator. It is possible to create a health care system where all Americans have access. It is possible for Obama to become the first African-American President.

With the help of our daughter, the help of the hundreds of people who have offered their support in this campaign, and with all of us coming together -- I think anything IS possible.
