Sign the petition--NO to telecom immunity

Last week, I let you know about U.S. Senate action on a bill dealing with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, also known as FISA. The legislation under current debate includes immunity for telecommunications companies who may have illegally turned over the records of millions of American citizens.

Last Thursday, Gordon Smith voted to kill a bill that would have held telecom immunities accountable.

Sign the petition now to tell Senator Gordon Smith and Senator Ron Wyden to vote against this amnesty for telecom companies.

This afternoon, the Senate is voting on whether to shut off debate on the bill. The push is on to pass this deeply flawed legislation. Providing telecom companies this kind of legal cover is wrong. Any company who acted illegally should be held accountable for their actions.

Please sign the petition to ask Senator Smith and Senator Wyden to vote no on telecom immunity.

Congress must protect the rights of American citizens. They must restore the balance of power by returning oversight to the judiciary. The courts, not Congress, should decide what is legal.
