Electrical Workers Endorse Jeff Merkley for U.S. Senate

PORTLAND—Another labor union has endorsed Jeff Merkley’s bid to unseat Gordon Smith in this year’s race for U.S. Senate in Oregon. The Oregon State Association of Electrical Workers, which includes IBEW Local 48, has thrown their support behind Merkley. They join five other labor unions who have given their early support to Merkley.

“Jeff has been a champion for Oregon workers for nearly a decade in the legislature. He comes from a union family, so he understands the values of fair treatment and hard work. And Jeff knows that a highly skilled workforce is a key to a strong economy,” said Clif Davis, business manager of IBEW Local 48. “Our members are excited to get to work right away for Jeff to help him build the biggest grassroots campaign Oregon has ever seen.”

The Oregon State Association of Electrical Workers and its affiliate local unions represent workers in inside electrical construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, electrical manufacturing and maintenance. There are 10,000 members in Oregon.
