AFT-Oregon Supports Jeff Merkley for U.S. Senate

PORTLAND—Oregon’s affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers has given its support to Jeff Merkley in his campaign for U.S. Senate. They are the seventh labor union to lend their early support to Merkley.

“AFT-Oregon is excited to recommend Jeff for his longstanding commitment to Oregon’s education system and to working families across the state,” AFT-Oregon President Mark Schwebke said. “Jeff has stood with us for better health care in Oregon, a more stable economy, and his critical role in directing the largest increase in higher education funding in Oregon in memory. He cares about working families, and the educational future of all Oregonians.”

According to AFT-Oregon, they encompass 20 Locals representing some 10,000 Oregon workers in K-12, community college and higher education in faculty and classified positions; and child care workers, in both public and private sectors.
