Mayor Tom Potter: Join Our Grassroots Challenge!

TomPotter.jpgPortland Mayor Tom Potter endorsed Jeff Merkley for US Senate today. And with his endorsement, Mayor Potter has issued a Growing the Grassroots Challenge to others supporting Jeff's campaign:

When I ran for Mayor of Portland in 2003, many people said that I couldn't do it. They said that I didn't have a chance against a larger, well-funded campaign. But the people of Portland knew better. They stepped up and worked hard at the grassroots level to propel my campaign to victory.

It's in that spirit that I proudly stand with Jeff Merkley in his campaign to defeat Gordon Smtih for the US Senate.

Jeff Merkley's leadership as Speaker of the Oregon House has shown me that he's the right man to defeat Gordon Smith. Jeff is building the same sort of progressive, grassroots movement that sparked my campaign. Just as I reached out to the citizens of Portland, Jeff Merkley is reaching out to all Oregonians to join his campaign for progressive change in the US Senate.

Today as I announce my endorsement of Jeff's campaign, I'd also like to issue a challenge to you: invite at least five your friends to join the Jeff Merkley for US Senate campaign.

Please help us continue to build this campaign to get Jeff to the US Senate. You can click here and use our handy email invitation system to ask your friends to join us.

As a part of this challenge, for every person you invite using our email invitation, your name will go into a drawing for a dinner with Jeff and me.

I'm calling this the Growing the Grassroots Challenge. My goal is to have at least 1000 people invited to join Jeff's grassroots campaign.

As the challenge moves ahead, I look forward to growing this people-powered movement. With your help, we'll make this the largest grassroots campaign in the history of Oregon.

Sincerely,

Tom Potter
Mayor of Portland
